The Friends of Valentines Mansion

The Friends of Valentines Mansion has as its aims and objectives:

To support and assist in the preservation and improvement of the listed building Valentines Mansion in the London Borough of Redbridge for the benefit of the public, and the promotion of its use by the public through the activities of the group of Friends.

A copy of the Friends constitution is available on this site.

The Charity Commission granted the Friends of Valentines Mansion charitable status as from the end of January 2004. Our Registered Charity Number is 1101835. This means that we will be able to recover tax paid by our members and contributors on subscriptions and donations, where individuals have indicated this is possible. If you are a member and have not already completed the tax authorisation, please use the membership application form (below) to do this.

Since 2000 more than 450 people have contributed to these aims and membership currently stands at over 330 people. Events are held regularly throughout the year, at the Mansion and elsewhere. These have included talks by historian Ruth Goodman, antiques expert Paul Atterbury, and Chief Curator of Historic Royal Palaces, Lucy Worsley.  Our May Fair is a popular family event with craft stalls, music, side shows and entertainment.  We have a strawberry cream tea in June and a Christmas celebration which always features music and mince pies.  Other events include wine and cheese tasting, jazz evenings and quizzes.  We have visited places of interest such as Copped Hall, Hylands House, Rainham Hall, Hill Hall, the Chelsea Physic Garden, the Whitechapel Bell Foundry and the William Morris Gallery.  Please see the Events page for forthcoming events.

The Friends produce a quarterly newsletter for members with accounts of events that have taken place, details of future events and other articles of interest. A number of issues have included recollections of the Mansion long ago and we continue to add to this collection as material becomes available.

On one Sunday each month, from February to November, the Friends have a second-hand bookstall at the dovecote, alongside the Mansion.  Come and browse through our extensive selection of books.  Dates and times will be posted on our Events page.

New members are always welcome. If you would like to join the Friends, please download and complete our membership form [pdf copy] or contact our Membership Secretary at
