Valentines Mansion was built around 1696-7. It is considered by English Heritage to be "of outstanding architectural or historic interest or of great importance to the nation's built heritage" and is Grade II* listed. Not a grand building, it was a family home for a gentleman of high status. Valentines Mansion is located in a beautiful park setting, Valentines Park, near Gants Hill in the London Borough of Redbridge. You can find details of how to get to Valentines, the history of the Mansion and its owners and plans for the future of the building in the 'Explore' section of this website. Restoration of the Mansion started in July 2007 and will be completed by the early autumn this year, 2008. Following restoration, the Mansion will feature period rooms, an exhibition gallery and displays on the history of the Mansion and its estate. School children will role play life 'upstairs & downstairs', using the reconstructed Victorian kitchen and dairy as part of an exciting new education programme. Artists and craftspeople will occupy studios on the top floor, and showcase their work. A range of rooms within the Mansion will also be available for hire by community groups and businesses, and for parties and special events, including weddings. The Heritage Lottery Fund and the London Borough of Redbridge are funding the restoration. The Heritage Lottery Fund is providing £2 million towards the cost of restoring Valentines. The London Borough of Redbridge is funding the balance of £1.2 million needed to restore the Mansion to full use. In parallel with the restoration work on the Mansion, the surrounding parkland is being restored. Already, park restoration work is looking absolutely stunning. This work, also funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the London Borough of Redbridge, will be completed by early summer this year, 2008. It is expected that the Mansion facilities will be available for hire from January 2009. If you are interested in making use of our newly restored Mansion, please find London Borough of Redbridge contact details on our 'Contacts' page. You can make bookings now. Why not be the first to use the Mansion!
