friends of valentines mansion logoFriends of Valentines Mansion

The Friends of Valentines Mansion has as its aims and objectives:

To support and assist in the preservation and improvement of the listed building Valentines Mansion in the London Borough of Redbridge for the benefit of the public, and the promotion of its use by the public through the activities of the group of Friends.
A copy of the Friends constitution is available on this site.

The Charity Commission granted the Friends of Valentines Mansion charitable status as from the end of January 2004. Our Registered Charity Number is 1101835. This means that we will be able to recover tax paid by our members and contributors on subscriptions and donations, where individuals have indicated this is possible. If you are a member and have not already completed the tax authorisation, please use the membership application form (below) to do this.

Since 2000, over 450 people have contributed to these aims and membership currently stands at over 340 people. Events are held regularly throughout the year and these are both well supported and well attended. Please see the Events page for forthcoming events.

The Friends produce a quarterly newsletter for members with accounts of events that have taken place, details of events planned for the future and other articles of interest. A number of issues have included recollections of the Mansion long ago and we continue to add to this collection as material becomes available.

We continue to seek members, including individuals who can make time available to conceive, plan, organise or run events associated with the Mansion. If you would like to join the Friends, please download and complete our membership application form or contact our Membership Secretary at res@smassocs.freeserve.co.uk.

Restoration of the Victorian kitchen range in the Dairy wing of the building was the first internal restoration task to be undertaken on the Mansion. Funding for this was by the Friends and by the London Borough of Redbridge. This work was completed during 2004.

Local historians continue to carry out research concerning the Mansion, the people who have lived there and other Mansion connections. Summaries of this work are published in the Newsletters as it becomes available. Some selected items from our Newsletters are available on this website.

We have had contacts from around the world from people who have links to or memories of the Mansion. If you have Mansion stories that you would like to share, please contact us at ValentinesMansion@hotmail.com.
