Our Mexican connection

Our news about the Mansion kitchen range restoration elicited some interesting news from Mexico City.

Visitors to the Mansion - or readers of this site - will be familiar with the Victorian kitchen range manufactured by the firm of William Baily and Sons in about 1870.

We have had contact from a businessman in Mexico City who has a beautiful firegrate made by William Baily and Son. He has been researching the history of this grate for some time now both in Mexico and in the United Kingdom.

Please do let us know if you have any information about a similar William Baily grate, anywhere in the world. Any documentary evidence of its age would be welcome. In particular, the owner is interested in the business trading arrangements that might have led to an item manufactured in London being delivered to Mexico City.
