Valentines Park in the most attractive and interesting park in the London Borough of Redbridge and, arguably, within East London and suburban Essex. The park was originally the private parkland of Valentines Mansion and parts were landscaped to created a high quality Rococo landscape in the mid-18th century. The was added to - and modified - during the late-19th century, notable additions being the Rose Garden (The Rosery) and The American Gardens In 1899, Ilford Council, purchase the southern part of the estate and created a fine municipal park. Over the next 25 years, the council acquired most of the remaining areas of the Valentines Estate to create the park we see today - a unique mix of 18th, 19th and 20th century elements. The park is popular with residents and visitors and contains many facilities and amenities, from the usual children's play area through to thriving bowls, cricket and football clubs. Melbourne Fields is used to host events such as the Rotary Club's annual Firework Display, circuses and fun-fairs and community events, for example, the biannual Redbridge Green Fair This section of our website gives information on the historical aspects of the park and some of its current uses, as well as providing opportunities for visitors to comment on the park Inevitably, this part of our website is always developing and changing.
